They may be standalone programs or integrate into a program that you already use, such as Microsoft Outlook or the Mozilla browser. Most RSS readers are programs that you download. So the content comes to you, rather than you having to go to the content. RSS readers are set up to periodically check for content items in the feeds to which you subscribe, often every hour or half hour. These programs allow you to subscribe to RSS feeds. One way to access an RSS feed is by using an RSS reader, also called an aggregator. There is some discussion about what RSS stands for, but one popular translation is "Really Simple Syndication." It is a format used for syndicating online content that allows you to choose the content you want and have it delivered directly to you.
